Oral Fluid Testing
This type of drug testing is generally utilized by private companies to pre-screen prospective employees. It is also used to perform random tests on current staff members. Oral-Fluid testing is also used by school systems to ensure drug-free schools. Many companies and school systems find this type of testing to be less invasive than other screening options. Oral-Fluid testing measures drug use that has occurred on a very recent basis. Oral-Fluid testing is performed by using a device that is placed in the mouth of the donor. After the appropriate amount of saliva is collected, the sample is returned to the lab for analysis. The reason for this form of testing being less common than urine testing is because the detection time is significantly shorter (about 1 day for most drugs).
